- fdny – On Saturday, April 14, the family of #FDNY Firefighter Sanford Goldberg visited FDNY #Engine211 to donate Firefighter Goldberg’s helmet to the firehouse in which he served from 1954-1956. Firefighter Goldberg served New York City for 23 years, having joined the FDNY in 1938 at age 22. Firefighter Goldberg was nicknamed “the flying fireman” and won several races throughout his career, including the Metropolitan 1000 trophy and New York A.C. meet in 1939, and the Civil Service Leader 600-yard handicap feature at the Grover Cleveland Club games in 1940.
